Wood Fired Nerikomi Chewed Pencil *SECOND*

Wood Fired Nerikomi Chewed Pencil *SECOND*
4” Wood fired nerikomi Chewed pencil!! No glaze just coloured porcelain! This si a second because a bit of the tip of the pencil has broken off at some point between Medicine hat and Montreal. Though I find it fitting when you break the lead of your pencil.
What is a wood fire you ask?
These are atmospheric firing techniques using large outdoor wood kilns. The pieces are fired for up to 26 hours while adding wood to the kiln EVERY FEW MINUTES! The ash of the wood volatilizes at the high temperatures and creates a glazed surface on the pieces in a reduction atmosphere (void of oxygen). The glaze made from the wood ash is greenish and very runny. No two firings are the same, and each piece is deeply unique.
Each piece is made by hand and can vary slightly in size and colour from one to the next. Variations are to be embraced by the uniqueness of each piece and the nature of ceramic arts.
